Empowering people through sustainable socioeconomic development.
The Institute brings together local and global experts to identify and implement innovative solutions to Zambia’s social, economic, and technological problems.
Through the Breaking the Chains of Poverty in Zambia Scholarship Program, the Institute offers
need based merit scholarships to underprivileged high school students with excellent academic
credentials, dedication to community service, and exemplary leadership skills. The vision of this
program is to ensure that none of the most brilliant children in Zambia drop out of school due
to lack of funds.
Since its inception in 2009, the Institute has grown an alumni base of seventy three students
who have gained admission into universities across the world and are a beacon of hope. These
students are changemakers in their communities where they are making ground breaking
change. Gregory Sikeba, from our 2011 cohort of students has been volunteering at Ivwaananji
Community School for the past three years. This volunteer opportunity has led him to set up
the Lael Foundation which is aimed at providing vulnerable students in community schools with
linkages to potential sponsors.
The impact that we have made and the greater need for sponsorship has given us the impetus
to further expand our nationwide scholarship. Therefore, in our 2015 selection we interviewed
three hundred and fourteen students from twenty-seven schools spanning seven provinces. As
an Institute, we are resolute to ensure that no brilliant underprivileged student drops out of
school due to lack of funds.
