Overview of Topics
- Exposure: Interns will expose students to current information on technologies that include web development, mobile development, networking, robotics, and other areas of computer science and communications.
- Mobile Development: Interns will teach students how to create simple mobile applications that help their communities and can be monetized to generate revenue. These lessons will be based on Google App Inventor which is being used all over the world to teach novice software developers of all ages how to create applications that run on the Android platform. Since the Android platform powers some of the best smart phones available, students will be able to reach a worldwide audience with their creations.
- Robotics: Interns, over the course of the internship,will teach students how to develop software for inexpensive robots that can be constructed from educational kits. Leveraging Mindstorms robots that emerged out of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a teaching tool for secondary school students, the program will provide students with tangible and engaging hardware that motivates learning.
- Entrepreneurship: Interns will help in crafting the future leaders of Zambia by emphasizing entrepreneurial thinking in order to galvanize students into creating successful businesses. In order to create innovative solutions and technology, students must first become familiar with existing technology to better understand their capabilities and limitations. Exposing students to a variety of technology serves to broaden their understanding while allowing them to develop novel ideas based on their own ingenuity.
